Heights High's National Honor Society Inducts 73 New Members

Heights High School's chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 73 new members on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. NHS recognizes student achievement and encourages dedication to the four pillars: scholarship, service, character, and leadership.

The ceremony was help in the high school auditorium and began with the NHS advisor, Nicole Zubik, greeting and congratulating the students for their achievements. Dr. Brandon Towns, the Administrative Principal for Cleveland Heights High School was next to take the stage as the Keynote Speaker.

Current senior NHS members then shared their unique perspectives and definitions on the four pillars. Henry Dyck spoke about the pillar of Leadership, Addison Hart spoke about Service, Gabriel Mallamad spoke about Scholarship, and Abs Burkle spoke about Character.

Students were excited to have their names called to receive their NHS membership certificates. To formally induct the students and demonstrate their acceptance into the chapter, they recited the NHS pledge:

I pledge myself to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society, to which I have been selected. I will be true to the principals for which it stands: I will be loyal to my school: and will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

The group's ongoing service project is the NHS Tutoring Lab that is staffed by NHS volunteers. It is open to all heights High students during the lunch periods, four days a week in the media center.

The National Honor Society chapter at Heights High School invited all sophomores and juniors with a 3.5 GPA or above to apply for membership, having demonstrated achievement in the area of scholarship, service, leadership, or character. The application process included documenting service experience within the school and community, as well as expressing strengths, future plans, and character traits in a personal essay. Membership requires attendance to meetings, participating in fundraising events, and planning and implementing service projects.

Nicole Zubik, the Instructional Coach for Heights High School, is the NHS advisor.
